Genuinely simple but an addicting strange serenade. Unknown Mortal Orchestra is a band out of one of my favorite cities, Portland. They originally released this track on Bandcamp about a year ago but didn’t get recognized until some time later but none other than Fat Possum. legit.
The Weeknd dropped a mixtape, Echoes of Silence on December 21 and holy fuck it is good. I mean I’m not surprised, but geez this guy blows me away. So sexy, erotic and beautiful. This song is on repeat, for sure.
Absolutely in love with this dream-pop London/Italian man of the hour Mauro Remiddi. His debut album Strange Weekend, will be released on January 24. He opens for M83 this spring on their Europe tour. Must see him in person.
Forgot how much I love this London stud. Exaggerated, flat, repetitive, whinny yet somehow this song ends up being super catchy. Gotta love Tom Vek for being bold… It’s been 6 years since I’ve heard anything from this guy and finally he came out with Leisure Seizure back in June 2011.
One of my favorite bands, and this song is sooooo well done. I saw them perform at Sezio’s Four Day Weekend in San Diego back in November. Blew me away. Really though. I could not stop smiling the entire time. Time blending together so effortlessly beautiful. Days is by far one of my top albums ever.
Ok seriously it’s been way too long since The Rapture came out with anything new and gotta say I’m totally into their new stuff… much more mainstream yet not cheezy. In the Crace of Your Love LP came out September 6 2011 via DFA. I guarantee that The Rapture will be playing upcoming music festivals.
So many good bands come out of Subpop Records and Still Corners is one of them. This band is from London, been noticing a lot of awesome bands coming from London or Toronto lately. Creatures of an Hour was released in October 2011. Mellow and dreamy.
The National - Think You Can Wait ft. Sharon Van Etten
The National has always been one of my top favorite bands for awhile ever since my band booked them at his music festival Street Scene back in 2008. Since then I’ve seen them a dozen times, each time giving me chills. “Think You Can Wait” featuring vocals from Sharon Van Etten was made for the movie Win Win starring Paul Giamatti.
Clever play on words by Islands with the ironic title “This Is Not a Song”. FYI… if you just recently got burned by a someone, you might want to skip over this song, immensely emotional right down to the drawn-out instrumentation…oh boy. Islands known for avant-pop hasn’t released anything since 2009’s Vapors so very excited for Nick Thorburn’s new project A Sleep and A Forgetting which will be released on February 14.
I had once heard a interview a couple of years ago about how the concept of lucid dreams had inspired School of Seven Bells. They take the listener into a dream world with their vastly rich sounds and layering vocals. Immediately I kept a close eye on this band. Ghostory, the bands third album will release on February 28 via Vagrant and Ghostly International. Oddly enough, this will be the first album without Claudia Deheza sister to lead vocalist Alejandra.
This song gives me goosebumps, such a extravagant build-up that begins with a galloping melody and leaps in sound and with rich muffled vibrations that leaves me in awe. Civilian, also the title of the Baltimore pair Wye Oak’s third album came out March 3 2011 via Merge.
These mellow and spacey ambient beats will put you in a dazy slumber as you drift through the song. I don’t know much of Detroit’s Of Oceans except that this song was released via Bandcamp on December 15, 2010.
